On the three UAE islands
Regional-United Arab Emirates, Politics, 9/14/1999
Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid said the question of Greater and Lesser Tanb and Abu Mousa islands, which are the subject of a dispute between the United Arab Emirates and Iran, has occupied a ranking position in the meeting of the AL council.
In a telephone call with the London-based al-Mustaqillah paper, the AL chief said the AL general secretariat received a detailed memorandum from the UAE in this respect.
He added that the efforts made by the AL in this respect are not in contradiction with the role played by the three-member committee formed by the Gulf Cooperation Council to settle the dispute with Iran over the question of the three islands.
