Central Bank: 3.1 million tourists visited Egypt during the first nine months of fiscal year 98-99
Egypt, Economics, 9/13/1999

An economic report of the central bank issued yesterday said that the first nine months of the fiscal year 1998 - 99 witnessed a remarkable improvement in tourism traffic to Egypt, as the number of tourists reached 3.1 million, an increase of 20.2%, and the number of tourist nights reached 18.7 million nights, an 8% increase.

The report said that despite the remarkable improvement in the activity of this sector, the growth of tourist nights didn't keep pace with the growth of the number of tourists, caused by a decrease in the length of an average stay during the period to reach six nights per tourist.

Moreover, the report in this respect saw the importance of amending the tourism programs by stretching their length and gradually improving their prices, especially after the atmosphere became secure and ready to achieve more positive results during the coming period.
