Moussa, al-Sharaa deny tensions in relations between Egypt and Syria
Egypt-Syria, Politics, 9/13/1999

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa denied reports regarding tensions in Syrian - Egyptian relations.

In a press statement yesterday he said, "Relations between Egypt and Syria cannot witness any kind of tensions, because they are strong and founded on a strong basis."

He added, "Egypt fully supports Syria in its fair demands regarding retaking its lands," adding that Egypt is always ready to play any role it might be asked to support the peace process.

Meanwhile, Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa denied that there are any tensions in relations between his country and Egypt and Saudi Arabia saying that what was recently repeated regarding this is "nothing but assumptions by some mass media."

He added that Syrian President Hafez al-Assad phoned Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak immediately after the criminal attack to which Mubarak was exposed and congratulated him on his safety.

It was also decided that the two presidents are to meet soon.
