Muslim Brothers stage strike in Jordan
Jordan, Politics, 9/11/1999

Following Friday prayers yesterday, the Muslim Brothers group organized a strike in a mosque inside a Palestinian refugee camp in Jordan in protest over the measures adopted by Jordanian government against Hamas three weeks ago.

Jordan has accused Hamas of attempts to break Jordanian laws and spoil Jordan's relations with the Palestinian government.

Meanwhile, with the participation of more than 1,000 people, the prayers spoke out yesterday evening in solidarity with the Jordanian Hamas movement.

Before the strike, in which the security forces refused to interfere, a number of personalities spoke in the payers, at top of which were the former Jordanian Islamic Parliamentary Deputy Hamza Mansour, who said that closing Hamas' bureau in Amman is an attempt to pursuade its leadership to settle the Palestinian issue and pave the way for a final status agreement between the Palestinians and Israelis and that these measures are a part of a campaign against the Palestinian opposition.
