Morocco renews call for normalizing relations with Algeria
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 9/10/1999

Morocco renewed Thursday attachment to normalizing relations and cooperating with Algeria for the consolidation of the Maghreban unity process.

"We are interested in the future. We should endeavor for the same objective to which all Maghreban peoples aspire," said the Moroccan government spokesman at a briefing held after the cabinet weekly meeting.

He also renewed Morocco's determination to go forward in enhancing cooperation with Algeria to serve the interests of the people of the two neighboring states.

Last Wednesday, Moroccan Interior Minister, Driss Basri, told the London based Asharq Al-Awsat daily that the current misunderstanding in the Moroccan-Algerian relations is no more than a transient summer cloud.

The misunderstanding was triggered by the latest Algerian president's implicit accusations that Morocco hosts the persons responsible for Beni Ounif massacre in southern Algeria, a subject that Morocco denied.
