Canada wants a role in Syrian peace
Syria-Canada, Politics, 9/10/1999
Canadian Defense Minister Arthur Eggleton, who left Damascus on Thursday following a two-day official visit, met with his Syrian counterpart, Lt. Gen. Mustafa Tlass.
A statement by the Canadian embassy in Damascus said talks dealt with means of enabling Canada to continue its role in preserving peace and security in the Middle East.
Diplomatic sources in Damascus said that during the visit held two months earlier by Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa to Canada, Canada proposed its participation in the multilateral forces if peace is achieved between Syria and Israel and that al-Sharaa welcomed the Canadian proposal, when conditions permit.
