Syrians of the Golan stress commitment to homeland, reject normalization
Syria-Israel, Politics, 9/10/1999

The Syrian citizens in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights have asserted their adherence to their homeland, Syria, against schemes and conspiracies aimed at distorting the Syrian image of the Golan.

A statement released by the inhabitants of the Golan on Thursday said: "Since the beginning of the occupation, we have been deterring by all means the frequent and repeated Israeli schemes. Today it has a new normalization face, in which Israel tries to reveal a false and untrue living condition in the Golan through what is called the 'Apple Festival.'"

The statement added that based on the sense of responsibility felt by the Syrian people of the Golan, "measures have been taken to assert the principles advocated by the Syrians in the Golan in confronting this conspiracy of normalization with the Israelis in the Golan."
