Former Moroccan leprous exhibit carpets in Paris
Morocco-France, Culture, 9/9/1999
Paris is hosting this September 7 through October 4 an exhibition of carpets made by Moroccan patients who suffered from leprosy.
Entitled "thread of exchange," the exhibition allows the public to discover the hand work made by patients of a Casablanca hospital. Arab-Andalusian carpet weaving techniques combined with occidental ones were used.
Officials at the Casablanca hospital initiated this activity in 1969 for a double purpose: to fight idleness and to give more flexibility to the lepers fingers.
Talented artists emerged, making it possible to market the products and raise funds for other handicapped persons.
