Mubarak follows up Sahrq al-Tafriah project
Egypt, Politics, 9/7/1999
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak paid a visit yesterday to work sites in Sahrq al-Tafriah in Port Said to follow up on the progress of the work in this project, which includes the establishment of a port that can handle large containers.
The port's strategic location off the Mediterranean will make it exceptionally important for trade traffic between East Asia and Western Europe.
The project is designed in a way that allows for future expansions in order to cope with the increase in number of vessels traversing the port.
Following his briefing on the project's developments, Mubarak said the industrial zone in East Port Said coud be Egypt's gateway to international trade, adding that it had all the potential for success and can attract a great deal of foreign investments.
On the other hand, Mubarak expressed satisfaction at the increasing share of the private sector's involvement in economic activities. The private sector offers jobs for approximately 10 million workers, who make up two thirds of the entire work force in Egypt.
Meanwhile, Egyptian Prime Minister Kamal El-Ganzouri spoke about the development of the project, saying this project is considered part of the new construction plan for Egypt that was just a dream and is turning into reality now.
After President Mubarak examined the project, he visited Port Said city, where tens of thousands of the city's inhabitants rallied on both sides of the road to salute the Egyptian president.
