AL calls for uniting Arab activities
Regional, Politics, 9/7/1999
Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid has called for uniting Arab efforts to overcome the obstacles hindering the implementation of the decisions of the consultative meeting of the Arab foreign ministers, held in January. These decisions call for lifting the economic sanctions imposed on Iraq and setting up an Arab follow-up committee to work in this area.
The AL statements were expressed in a report addressed to a meeting of the Arab foreign ministers due to be held next Sunday.
The AL chief expressed his hope that ongoing consultations will result in crystallizing a work plan to lift the economic sanctions on Iraq. He stated in his report that the AL is exerting its utmost efforts to suspend the military acts and operations conducted against Iraq.
