Ottoman ammunition found in southern Jordan
Jordan, Culture, 9/7/1999
Jordanian archaeologists have found some 76 shells of an old artillery belong to the Ottoman era, dating back to almost one hundred years inside a castle built by the Crusaders in At Tafilah, southern Jordan.
A spokesman for the At Tafilah antiquities department on Monday told the AFP that these shells were unearthed in a well by workers while carrying out maintenance and cleaning of one well inside the castle, south of Amman.
He continued that these cylinder-shaped shells are in good condition and are explosive. Each shell is 30 cm long and 10 cm around.
