The Egyptian TV announced today that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak today was slightly wounded in his hand after being attacked by a man with a knife while passing in the downtown of "Port Saeed " town on the Suez Canal, and that the attacker was killed. Meantime, the Egyptian Middle east news Agency MENA said that this incident took place amid a large welcome by the citizens who crowded to greet President Mubarak and while he was shaking his hand outside the window of his car, greeting the masses, a man stabbed his hand with a knife and resulting in surface wounds, that did not prevent the president from continiuing his tour and delivering a public speech. US sources in Cairo confirmed today that Israeli forces are going to start their withdrawal from the West Bank on coming Monday according to the modified copy of the Wye River accord. The sources added that there would be two other withdrawals on of November 15, 1999 and January 20, 2000. Go

US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright left Israel on Sunday for Vietnam following a tour of the Middle East and a short visit to Turkey, during which inspected the area which was hit by the earthquake. Go

Libyan leader Col. Moammar Gaddafi on Saturday night in Tripoli received the secretary general of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) Salem Ahmad Salem who arrived in Libya to take part in the special African summit to be held in Tripoli next week. Go

Jordanian sources told the London based al-Sharq al-Awsat daily that the Syrian government is to appoint an ambassador in Amman in order to raise the level of Syrian diplomatic representation in Jordan, which has been for years at the level of the charge d'affairs, while Jordan still has the same representation on an ambassadorial level in Damascus.
