Morocco hosts preparatory meeting of parliaments conference

Morocco plays host this Sept 8-9 to the meeting of the preparatory committee of the world parliaments conference due at the UN headquarters in New York in 2000.
The preparatory committee is composed of speakers of the parliaments of Morocco, South Africa, Austria, Brazil, Bangladesh, Chile, Egypt, Spain, Russia, Italy, Jordan, Pakistan, Rumania, Sweden and a representative of the UN secretary General.
The committee's agenda includes debates on the future of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU), the elaboration of a new charter of the world parliaments and the possibility of replacing IPU by a new body adapted to the new world order.
