Report: SADR presence in Algiers is a mere mailbox address
Morocco, Politics, 9/6/1999

The official presence of the so-called SADR (self-proclaimed Sahrawi republic) in Algiers is restricted to a mere mailbox "Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, PO Box 9, Central post, Algiers," as an official address for both the officials and ordinary people, notes Lebanese daily Al Mostaqbal.

In a report on the latest Polisario congress, the daily describes this situation as "the big paradox" of the so-called Sahara issue: a non-existing entity aspiring to gain international recognition.

The paper also notes that the Polisario congress was held in a troubled and unhealthy atmosphere, due to the return to Morocco of several former Polisario leaders, even those within the military leadership.

The daily also cites Morocco's diplomatic gains, mainly in Africa where more than 10 countries have withdrawn their recognition of the phantom republic.
