El-Baz: Gains to Palestinians in new deal greater than concessions
Egypt, Politics, 9/6/1999

The political advisor of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Osama El-Baz, said that the gains made by the Palestinians through the new accord signed in Sharm El-Sheikh are greater than the concessions they made.

In press statements, El-Baz added that Israeli's gains are lesser than those obtained by the Palestinians.

El-Baz said no new legal rights are dictated according to the agreement, but it specifies a timetable for implementing what was agreed upon before.

El-Baz said Egypt has played a major role in reaching an agreement, and the USA was greatly concerned with reaching a satisfactory settlement between the two sides.

El-Baz added that it is not the aim of Egypt to pressure the Palestinians but to help them bridge the gaps by presenting new ideas or compromises.
