German-based Moroccans project to build Islamic cultural compound

The Moroccan community based in the western German city of Bergheim is planning to build a cultural compound comprising a five-dome mosque.

Thanks to the support of local sports, cultural and social associations of Moroccans, a 600 square-meter plot of land was bought at a competitive price (700,000 DM) from the city's authorities.

Some 3,450 Moroccans are living in the city of Bergheim and the neighborhoods.

The compound, designed by a Moroccan architect living in Germany, will be supervised by a cultural and social association which carries out other activities such as the teaching of Arabic to Moroccan youth.
