Bouteflika calls for overcoming terrorism tribulation
Algeria, Politics, 9/4/1999

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has stressed the importance of unifying the Algerian people and to put an end to the terrorism imposing itself on the country for the last 10 years, describing it as an unprecedented tragedy and exploited by some people in creating the ethnic and tribal disputes.

He aslo emphasized the importance of the country's unity, in light of cultural multiplicity in which he greatly believes, saying that it achieves richness and integration in light of the united Algerian people and society.

During a people's conference held in the state of Tizi Ouzou to rally public support for participating in the referendum for the civil reconciliation law, Bouteflika avoided speaking of the crisis that erupted suddenly between Algeria and Morocco, following the accusations he directed against Morocco of sheltering a number of terrorists who committed the Bechar massacre a month ago, due which 34 citizens were killed.

Meanwhile, diplomatic sources in Algeria stated that there are condensed efforts currently being exerted to overcome this crisis and to restore dialogue once more between Algeria and Morocco.
