Three killed in an armed clash in Sanaa
Yemen, Politics, 9/4/1999

Three persons were killed in an armed clash in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa while elements of the relief forces were inspecting the arms carried by citizens according to a new Yemeni governmental decision to ban citizens from carrying arms.

The Yemeni Ministry of Interior has called on citizens not carry arms in streets and threatened to take action against violators. This provision was issued following several explosions that took place in different parts of Yemen.

In today's armed attack, three persons were killed: the son of the head of the military police, Yehia Habib El-Kharash, and two members of the relief forces.

Security sources said that a gunfight took place between elements of the relief forces and El-Kharash when he was stopped by these forces searching for arms carried by the citizens and seizing them according to ministerial instructions and El-Kharash didn't respond to them.
