Islamic organization campaigns against Jerusalem, capital of Israel stand at Disney World exhibition
Regional-USA, Politics, 9/4/1999

The Rabat-based Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) has sent a letter to the CEO of US firm "Walt Disney" protesting an exhibit on "Jerusalem, capital of Israel" at the Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida.

ISESCO, an arm of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), also sent letters calling culture ministers of the OIC member countries to take action to make the firm renounce its decision to allow the exhibit.

In the letters also sent to the UNESCO and the Arab League Education, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), the organization denounced the theme picked by Israel for its exhibit "as a blatant provocation of the feelings of Arabs and Muslims and a deplorable violation of International resolutions which consider Al-Quds (the Arabic name for Jerusalem) as an occupied city."

In Washington, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee joined the American Committee for Jerusalem in protesting the exhibit and voicing concern about the theme of the exhibit.

The two organizations said Israel has no legitimate claim in East Jerusalem which was captured during the 1967 war, a forced occupation that was criticized by the United Nations.

They also noted that all embassies in Israel are based in Tel Aviv, as most countries question Israel's claim of sovereignty over the city.
