Continued Israeli raids against south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 9/3/1999
Lebanese President Emile Lahoud has asserted Lebanon's commitment to its national principles regarding the peace process. He asserted unity of the Lebanese peace track with Syria, adding that "Lebanon is concerned with the establishment of just and comprehensive peace in the region."
Meantime, the Israeli occupation forces escalated their attacks against south Lebanon.
On Thursday, the Israeli warplanes raided Kafer Dounin town and carried out several provocative raids in the airspace of south Lebanon and the city of Tyre, while the Israeli artillery intensively bombarded several towns adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese resistance attacked the occupation positions and vehicles as well as the Kiryat Shemona settlement and stressed its right to resist the aggressors and defend the Lebanese civilians who were the target sof the Israeli bombardment in the occupied Lebanese town of Labaya.
Further reports from south Lebanon said the Israeli warplanes early Thursday raided the outskirts of Dounin town.
Lebanese security sources said the Israeli panes dropped air-to-surface missiles and were intercepted by anti-aircraft missiles fired by the Lebanese army and resistance.
The sources added that the bombardment targeted the areas surrounding the towns of Kafra, Yater, Kafer Dounin and hills and heights of al-Tuffah district.
For its part, the Lebanese resistance retaliated for the Israeli aggressions which targeted several south Lebanese towns.
The resistance also announced the death of one of its fighters, Hassan Qasem Aqel (29), who was killed during the confrontation with the Israeli forces and its militia allies.
Moreover, the April Understanding Monitoring Committee will on Monday hold a meeting at the headquarters of UNIFIL in the Lebanese border town of al-Naqoura.
The committee will discuss several Lebanese complaints pertaining to Israeli violations of the understanding's provisions by shelling residential areas and towns, especially the Israeli aggressions that took place on Wednesday in which two Lebanese civilians were killed in Labaya town in the western Bekaa.
