Lebanese prime minister discuss Albright visit with Syrian foreign minister
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 9/3/1999

Lebanese Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Salim al-Hoss on Thursday had a telephone conversation with Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa.

The two ministers made consultations relating to current developments in light of the current escalation of Israeli aggression against Lebanon, the visit of US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to the region and the coming session of the AL council.

Viewpoints were identical concerning all matters of concern to the two states debated by al-Hoss and al-Sharaa.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Higher Shiite Islamic Council in Lebanon, Sheikh Muhammad Mahdi Shamseddine, has asserted that the Israeli aggressions against Lebanese civilians in the south and the western Bekaa will not be able to break the political will in Lebanon.

In a statement he made in Beirut on Thursday, Sheikh Shamseddine said the Lebanese people are facing the Israeli aggression through their unity and resistance through adhering to the common unity of the Lebanese peace track and common destiny with Syria.

He called on international public opinion and the UN to work to put an end to Israeli intransigence and Israel's its attacks on Lebanese civilians.

He also called on the international community to pressure Israel to implement UN Security Council resolution 425, unconditionally.
