Iraq calls on US delegation to be eyewitness to extermination of Iraqis
Iraq-USA, Politics, 9/3/1999

Iraq has called on the US parliamentary delegation currently visiting the country to be an eyewitness to the extermination of the people of Iraq by the US.

The Iraqi daily al-Thawra welcomed the visit of the US congressional delegation in their effort to seek the truth regarding the consequences of the sanctions policy pursued by the US against Iraq under the name of international resolutions.

The paper expressed its confidence that the five-member delegation and representatives of two institutes in Washington currently touring southern Iraq will evaluate the consequences of the sanctions imposed since 1990 on Baghdad, which it said has been witnessing humanitarian and civilizational extermination resulting from the US policies.

The paper called on members of the visiting US delegation to unveil honestly the lies promoted by the US media and government.

The US government had refused to approve the visas of the parliamentary delegation for their visit to Iraq.

Meantime, the Russian Duma council on Wednesday reiterated its backing for lifting the sanctions imposed on Iraq since 1990.

During his meeting with Iraqi Deputy Premier Tareq Aziz in Baghdad, the deputy chairman of the Russian Duma council, Mikheal Gutserieve, said he conveys the backing and solidarity of the Duma council for the legitimate demands of Iraq to lift the sanctions imposed on it.

Russia has repeatedly objected to the intensive US and British raids against the northern and southern parts of Iraq since January, 1999.

Russia, China, France are calling for removing the sanctions imposed on Iraq against having a new system to monitor Iraqi weapons development systems.
