Moroccan neurology team discovers gene responsible of paralysis disease

A French-Moroccan team of neurologists at the Rabat University Hospital has discovered a gene responsible for a disease causing paralysis.
According to a statement of the neurology department, the disease is a degeneration affection of a nerve, causing a gradual paralysis of arms and legs and confining the patient to wheel-chair. It is reported both in boys and girls born from inter-marriages.
The new discovery was included in the "American journal of human genetics" in its September edition.
Relatedly, the World Health Organization has granted this year's Soucha Foundation international prize to Dr. Ali Benomar, a Moroccan neurologist working at the Rabat hospital of specialties for his "outstanding" contribution in neuro-genetics.
