Egypt supports integrated initiatives for Sudanese reconciliation
Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 9/2/1999
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said in statements to journalists yesterday that Egypt supports the integrated initiatives suggested to achieve reconciliation in Sudan and denied that there are any objections from the side of John Garang, head of the Sudanese People's Liberation Army, on what was agreed to through the Egyptian - Libyan initiative.
Moussa added that his meeting with Garang tackled the coming arrangements to solve the Sudanese crisis, as Garang has not opposed the Egyptian - Libyan initiative.
Moussa also said, "There is an agreement that what we are doing can never contradict with the efforts of the IGAD group and everything can be achieved by coordination."
Moussa, moreover, said Egypt plays a major role in light of integrated initiative, referring to the continuation of Libyan - Egyptian coordination that has obtained the approval of all Sudanese opposition leaders.
Concerning the postponement of the meeting of Sudanese preparatory committee's meeting, which was scheduled to be held on September 13 in Cairo, Moussa said that the concerned parties seek coordination between all opposition parties and that this meeting is going to be held this month, on the margins of the OAU (Organization of African Unity) exceptional meetings with representatives of Sudanese government, in Strte, Libya.
