Iraq renews denial of having Kuwaiti prisoners
Iraq-Kuwait, Politics, 9/1/1999
Iraq on Tuesday denied, once again, having any Kuwaiti prisoners in its territories and accused Kuwait of using this cause for political objectives.
The Iraqi daily Babel said that Kuwaiti officials are still debating this issue despite the fact that nine years have passed and Iraq's confirmation by definite evidence that there is not one missing Kuwaiti in Iraq, adding that the Kuwaitis are doing this at the request of the US administration.
The paper added that Iraq is much "greater than just seizing Kuwaitis who do not represent for it any significance," saying that the Kuwaitis are responsible for returning more than 1,027 Iraqis who are still missing or in Kuwaiti jails and that, "Iraq has the natural and legitimate right to demand restoring those missing back."
