Jordan launches campaign against Hamas movement
Jordan, Politics, 8/31/1999

Jordanian security forces have broken into the houses and offices of several leaders of the Hamas movement who reside in Amman.

Officials in Jordan said the reason for closing these offices was because this movement is registered as an office for commercial works, but it is used for political activities.

Among these houses and offices were those of the chairman of the movement's political bureau, Khaled Mishaal, and members of its political bureau, Mousa Abu Marzouk, Muhammad Nazzal and Izzat al-Rashq.

The campaign started on Monday at 3 p.m. and continued until the late hours of the day. These reports were confirmed by the general observer for the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan, Abdul Majeed Zuneibat, who told al-Hayat that he phoned Jordanian Prime Minister Abdul Raouf al-Rawabdah and that the Premier promised him to follow up this matter with specialized sides.

Meanwhile, the attorney general of the general state security released notes to arrest four Hamas officials who are currently in Iran: Ibrahim Goushe, Mousa Abu Marzouk, Khaled Mishal and Muhammad Nazal. The campaign resulted in the arrests of 12 persons.
