Regional-International, Politics, 8/31/1999
The Centre of Islamic and Middle Eastern Law in London said on Monday that the third international academic conference about Jerusalem will be opened in London on September 7.
A spokesman for the center said the conference, which bears the title "Islamic-Christian relations in Jerusalem: past and present," will be held at the faculty of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, adding the sessions of the conference will be in Arabic and English with a simultaneous translation.
The spokesman added that a former minister at the British Foreign Ministry, Tony Lloyd, will officially open the conference, which will be presided over by Seriel Townsend, the honorary president for the Islamic research complex. It will be attended by Labor parliamentarian Arnie Ross, who is also the chairman of the Middle East area at the ruling British Labor party.
Among participants in this annual conference are elite scholars and figures interested in the issue of Muslim Jerusalem in the Arab and Western worlds. They include renowned Syrian scholar Muhammad Saeed al-Bouti, President of al-Sharia faculty at Damascus University.
