Settlement volume doubles four times under Barak
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 8/30/1999

A member of the foreign affairs committee at the Palestine Legislative Council, Hanan Ashrawi, said the volume of Jewish settlements in Jerusalem has doubled four times since Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak came to power.

In statements to Sawt Palestine Radio (Voice of Palestine), Ashrawi added that Jerusalem falls under an Israeli plan for Judaization, and among other indications of the continuation of this plan is the withdrawal of identity cards and expelling Palestinians form the city.

Ashrawi said the Israeli insistence on convening an international conference in Jerusalem in 2000 embodies the Israeli insistence on keeping Jerusalem as a united capital for Israel, which was one of Barak's four nos.
