US congressional aides visit Baghdad
Iraq-USA, Politics, 8/30/1999
A group of US congressional aides arrived in Baghdad yesterday to examine the impact of UN sanctions and US policy on Iraq.
Meanwhile, Zabak Zalan the head of the delegation council said in the Jordanian capital, Amman, that the visit of US delegation to Iraq aims at finding facts about general situations in Iraq.
In a press statement Zalan said that first task of the delegation comes amid seeking to probe the living standard of Iraqi people under the economic sanctions.
Meanwhile during their five-day visit the delegations' members are to meet with help organizations and UN officials.
The delegation previously postponed its visit after the US State Department has opposed traveling to Iraq, saying that Iraq is not a safe country for US citizens.
