Syrian, Jordanian businessmen discuss relations
Syria-Jordan, Economics, 8/30/1999

Relations of industrial cooperation and coordination as well as trade exchange between Syria and Jordan and means of accelerating them were discussed on Sunday in Damascus between the chairman of the Damascus Chamber of Industry, Yahya al-Hindi, and a delegation representing Jordanian industrialists and businessmen, led by chairman of the Amman Chamber of Industry, Khaldoun Abu Hassan.

The two sides asserted the importance of achieving and reactivating industrial cooperation and trade exchange between the two countries and of speeding ahead in this regard to achieve Arab economic integration at a time when big economic blocs are prevailing in the world.

The two sides reviewed the economic and commercial agreements signed by Syria and Jordan. Means of promoting the cooperation among the Chambers of Industry in Damascus, Aleppo and Amman were also discussed.

Al-Hindi expressed the need to reactivate inter-Arab trade and to modernize Arab laws and regulations. He called for the realization of an Arab common market.

The Jordanian official, for his part, stressed that the Amman Chamber of Industry is ready to cooperate with its Damascus and Aleppo counterparts to create the common Arab market. He hinted that Jordanian capital is available to invest in the Arab states.
