Morocco gains four medals at World Athletics Championships
Morocco, Sports, 8/28/1999
Moroccan woman athlete Zahra Ouaziz gained silver at the 5,000 m race held Friday at the ongoing 7th World Athletics Championships in Seville, Spain.
Ouaziz offered Morocco its fourth medal after the gold brought in by Hicham El Guerrouj in the 1,500 m, the silver captured by Bedouane in the women 400-m hurdle and the bronze grabbed by Adil Ezzine in the 3,000 m steeplechase.
The four medals gleaned by Moroccan athletes at the 7th world athletics championships allow the kingdom to rank 9th in the world standing board which is still topped by USA, followed by Germany and Russia. The first African country appearing in the medal-table is Ethiopia which ranks 4th with four medals (two gold and two bronze). Romania came in the 5th place followed by the Czech republic, Britain and Kenya.
