Nezha Bedouane offers Morocco another medal at World Athletics Championships
Morocco, Sports, 8/26/1999
Moroccan woman sprinter Nezha Bedouane won a silver medal Wednesday in the 400-m hurdle race held at the ongoing 7th World Athletics Championships in Seville, Spain.
Bedouane, the former world 400-m hurdles champ, grabbed silver by finishing second with a 52.90 timing. The gold was captured by Daimi Pernia of Cuba, clocking 52.89. The bronze went to Deon Hemmings of Jamaica.
Morocco has so far gained three medals: one gold, one silver and one bronze. The gold was brought by Morocco's field and track star, Hicham El-Guerrouj. The Silver was captured by Bedouane, who, though she lost her world title, has set a new African record in the 400m-hurdles. The bronze medal was bagged by rising star Adil Ezzine in the 3,000 m steeplechase. Thanks to these three medals, Morocco stands 9th in the medals-table which is still topped by USA, followed by Germany and Russia.
Moroccan woman runner Zahra Ouaziz, who qualified for the 5,000 m finals, allows Morocco to hope for another medal.
