Rabat hosts an international parliamentary meeting
Regional, Politics, 8/24/1999
The Moroccan capital, Rabat, is due to host next month the second session of the preliminary committee for the conference of the national parliaments' leaders, with the participation of about 15 parliament leaders and six members of the executive committee for the International Parliamentary Union.
Moroccan sources told ArabicNews.com today that the meeting will be held in Rabat on September 8 to prepare for the parliaments' meeting scheduled to be held at UN headquarters in New York.
The sources added that the session in Rabat will discuss the addition of final features to the official declaration to be presented by the International Parliamentary Union to the UN General Assembly for ratification.
The sources said there is an agreement in requirements between the parliaments and the United Nations, which pushed the IPU to propose strong cooperation with UN, adding that the meeting decided to be organized by the UN in New York on August 30 is considered an indication of a strong endorsement of this cooperation.
