Norwegian and Dutch foreign ministers in Syria

Norwegian Foreign Minister Knut Vollebaek arrived today in Damascus for an official visit to Damascus to discuss means of reviving the peace process on the Israeli - Syrian track, which has been halted for more than three years.

Syrian sources said the Norwegian foreign minister would meet with his Syrian counterpart, Farouk al-Sharaa, and Syrian President Hafez al-Assad to inform them about the results of talks he held in Israel during his visit there.

Dutch Foreign Minister Jozias van Aartsen is to arrive in Syria on August 26 for a visit to discuss the peace process and the probability of achieving progress on the Lebanese and Syrian tracks with Israel.

Van Aartsen will also inform the Syrian leadership of the results of his meetings with the Israeli leadership and of Israel's stance toward the peace process.
