AL committee meets on Israeli nuclear activity

The Arab League committee in charge of following-up on and observing Israeli nuclear activities that are in contradiction to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty on Monday in Cairo concluded its 6th meeting.

Members of the committee confirmed the importance of the continued Arab efforts on all levels to explain the Arab position on considering the resolution of the Middle East an inseparable part of the process of of reviewing the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and holding the 2000 conference of its concerned parties to review this treaty.

The conference will be held in New York on April 24 - May 19, 2000 to adopt practical steps towards implementing this resolution.

The AL committee asserted the continuous intensified Arab efforts in the 43rd session of the general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The conference is due to be held next month in Vienna.

The committee commended the resolution of Arab information ministers' council in June 1999 on consequences and dangers of the Israeli nuclear activities.
