Regional, Politics, 8/23/1999
The Arab League follow-up committee for Israeli nuclear activity discussed a plan for rapid movement to expedite the Arab point of view, which will be inserted in the conference to review the nonproliferation treaty in New York, to be held between April 24 and May 19, 2000.
The committee, which started its meeting yesterday at the Arab League with the participation of Arab experts and specialists, will be studying the coordination of the efforts of the Arab group at the coming conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) concerning the guarantees of the agency in the Middle East.
It also will study the Israeli nuclear abilities and the dangers they represent to the security and stability of the region.
Ambassador Fathi Marie, who chaired the meeting, said the committee aimed at continuing Arab efforts with the Arab ambassadors council in Vienna to guarantee the inclusion of the articles from the Middle East and the article on the Israeli abilities in the coming meeting of the general conference of the IAEA, which will be held in Vienna during September.
