Algerian parties, forces reiterate backing for Bouteflika
Algeria, Politics, 8/23/1999

Several Algerian political parties and representatives of civil society have reiterated their backing to the policy pursued by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika aimed at restoring peace and stability through the "national reconciliation" objective, over which a referendum will be held on September 16.

The secretary general of the Democratic National Coalition, Ahmad Ouyahia, said in a speech at a public gathering that the civil "reconciliation law" bears in itself the spirit of tolerance which springs from the heart of the Algerian people's dream.

Meanwhile, representatives of the four-member coalition party, the National Liberation Movement, the al-Nahda Movement, the Democratic National Coalition and the Peaceful Society Movement released a statement on Saturday in which they stressed their backing for President Bouteflika's program.

The program concentrates on three pillars: restoring social security through perpetuating civil reconciliation, giving the national economy a push forward through linking it to development and restoring Algeria's true image and credibility in the world.
