Barak, Levy and peace with Syria
Syria-Israel, Politics, 8/23/1999
Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Barak said on Sunday that there are contacts in certain channels with Syria and that the coming few weeks or months may pave the way for resuming negotiations with it ( Syria).
In a report he read on Sunday before a meeting for the Israeli Cabinet, Barak added that there are attempts to feel the impulse taking place in several directions with Syria in order to find out the appropriate formula to resume negotiations with Syria.
On the other hand, the Israeli foreign minister David Levy said he understands " Syria's adherence to its stand and the conditions it sets out before starting negotiations with Israel." Levy statements were made in a report quoted by the Israeli radio during his meeting with Norway's FM on Sunday.
