Iraq, History, 8/21/1999
Iraqi archaeologists have recently unearthed the oblique of the Assyrian King Sanhareeb, which is three thousand years old, in Mosul North Iraq.
The Iraqi daily al-Iqtisadi (the economic) quoted Nawal al-Mitwali, the director of the cuneiform department at the Iraqi museum, that this oblique was taken to Baghdad.
She added the Oblique represents a huge stone placed in the main street of the the city of Assur and has lengthy sentences written in cuneiform. Al-Mitwali explained that the British museum keeps a copy of this oblique following the thefts operation made on the Iraqi antiquities during the British colonial era of Iraq by the beginning of this century.
Worth mentioning, the Iraqi civilization is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. Hammurabi's oblique is considered the first oblique on which Hammurabi, the first Babylonian King put the first law on the earth.
