Israel continues to aggrevate peace; talk of one thousand new houses in settlements
Israel, Politics, 8/21/1999

The Israeli Ministry of Construction announced yesterday its intention to bid on establishing 1,055 houses in Israeli settlements in the West Bank. The bids include establishing 504 houses in Geniet Zaief settlement, 461 houses in Malie Adomim settlement and two settlements in a suburb of occupied Jerusalem.

The Israeli Peace Now movement which opposes and follows such actions said that Minister of Construction Yitzhak Levy has issued 2,572 bids since July to establish new houses in the settlements.

Peace Now said the speed of establishing of settlements has increased by a rate that is 10 times faster in comparison with what took place in Benjamin Netanyahu's former government.

The movement called for discharging Levy for his insistence on expanding the settlements.
