Arabs unanimously support Morocco's candidacy to host world soccer cup in 2006
Morocco, Sports, 8/19/1999

The Arab ministers of Youth and sports who held a meeting here earlier this week on the fringes of the ongoing 9th Pan-Arab games have all voiced unanimous and unconditional support to Morocco's candidacy to host the world soccer cup in 2006. During the meeting that was attended by Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdel Meguid, the chairman of the Arab sports union, prince Faycal Ibn Fahd, renewed the Arab states' backing to the Moroccan bid. The Council of Arab ministers of youth and sports will hold an extraordinary general assembly in Morocco next October to coordinate moves to promote Morocco's candidacy.

Several participating ministers underlined Morocco's odds and pointed out that Morocco's dossier is that of all the Arabs. They said it was high time Africa hosted the world cup which traveled across all the other continents.

Moroccan minister of youth and sports who attended the meeting, handed a copy of Morocco's candidacy dossier to Prince Faycal, and called at a news conference on Arab media to back the kingdom's candidacy.
