Abdul Meguid: It is time to achieve Arab reconciliation
Regional, Politics, 8/18/1999
Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid has expressed his sorrow over the continuation of the 1990 Gulf War's negative effects on the Arab states, adding that it is time to achieve a comprehensive Arab reconciliation and rectify outstanding problems. Concerning the Mideast peace process, Abdul Meguid said in a statement to the Jordanian newspaper al-Rai yesterday that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak's intentions towards the peace process are still unclear and, "We should be cautious when dealing with him."
Abdul Meguid stressed that peace is not a gift to Israel from the Arabs.
