Air embargo imposed on south Sudan obstructed development
Sudan, Politics, 8/18/1999
Brenda Parto, the information official for the World Food Program in Nairobi, stated yesterday that the air embargo imposed by the Sudanese government on southern Sudan on July 14 led to blocking the efforts exerted by the program to convey food aid to this region's inhabitants.
In the same context, Parto expressed her optimism about the food situation in several states in southern Sudan, stating that the rainfall over most of the Sudanese south during recent months led to the improvement of the crop production.
