Some 19 Iraqis killed, 11 wounded by US raids
Iraq-USA, Military, 8/18/1999
Iraqi media on Tuesday denounced the world silence towards the continued US-British raids against its territories which it said resulted in killing several Iraqi citizens.
Meanwhile, the US warplanes intensified their bombardment of targets that the US claims are military targets. The US European Command announced that US fighters raided on Tuesday Iraqi antiaircraft batteries to the west of the city of Mosul and against a radar position in the southern part of Mosul, in northern Iraq.
In a statement, the US leadership said US warplanes bombarded the two positions by laser-guided bombs.
Meanwhile, an Iraqi military spokesman said that some 19 Iraqis were killed and another 11 wounded in the raids carried out by US and British planes against the northern and southern parts of the country.
Baghdad also denounced the world silence concerning the continued US and British attacks against the Iraqi territories.
The Iraqi dailies questioned the reason for killing innocent Iraqi people and destroying their houses.
In another development Iraq called on the UN Security Council to open a neutral investigation into UNSCOM's activities, which were locked up last July.
This was expressed in a message addressed by Iraq's permanent representative at the UN, Saeed Hameed, to the UN Security Council, in which he stressed the importance of making all things available at the UNSCOM's premises in Baghdad.
