Sudan, Politics, 8/17/1999

Official Sudanese sources said that Hassan Turabi, the secretary general of the ruling National Conference Party, will hold talks with Mohammed Othman El-Merghani, the head of the Sudanese opposition Democratic National Alliance within the coming days in an European capital.

The sources said there are three European capitals that may host this meeting: London, Paris, and Geneva.

Ali Hassan, a prominent leader in the opposition Democratic Unionist Party, said that El-Merghani, the leader of the party and the head of the alliance, is not refusing to meet with Sudanese President Omar El-Basheer or Turab. He added that this came amid the reconciliation efforts of El-Merghani and to activate his steps forward.

He said this meeting will be held according to basis drafted through the initiatives.
