Jordanian industry and trade minister arrives in Syria
Syria-Jordan, Economics, 8/17/1999

Jordanian Minister of Industry and Trade Muhammad Asfour arrived in Syria by land through Daraa on Monday and visited the Syrian - Jordanian industrial free zone. He was accompanied by Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Muhammad al-Imadi.

In a statement to SANA Asfour said his visit aims at strengthening and deepening economic ties between Syria and Jordan. He asserted the importance of the free-trade area and of revitalizing its role in attracting Arab and foreign investors.

In August, Syrian Prime Minister Mahmoud al-Zou'bi and his Jordanian counterpart, Abdul Raouf al-Rawabdeh, signed several economic agreements, mainly planning to increase the number of commodities exempted from customs fees between the two states to 200, as well as to establish a joint Syrian-Jordanian business council to encourage the private sector in the two states.
