Taleban movement meets with the Americans over Bin Laden
Regional-Afghanistan, Politics, 8/17/1999
The Afghan Taleban movement announced on Monday in Kabul that several meetings were held with US officials over Osama Bin Laden, but it asserted its refusal to expel Bin Laden from the territories of Afghanistan.
The spokesman for Taleban movement, Wakil Ahmad Mutawakil, said the Americans are making contacts with the representative of the Taleban movement in New York, Muhammad Hakim Mujahid, but he stressed that there is no change in the Taleban's policy to refuse to hand over Bin Laden or to expel him from its territories.
For its part a US official at the US embassy in Islamabad said the US is currently making intensive periodical contacts with the Taleban officials in New York, Washington or Islamabad. He added that the question of Bin Laden is just one of several issues that are being currently discussed between the two sides, but he gave no more explanations.
