No respite until siege is lifted on sequestered Moroccans, King Mohammed says
Morocco, Politics, 8/16/1999
King Mohammed VI underlined that he will have no respite until the siege imposed on the Moroccans, native of the Southern provinces, who are sequestered by the polisario in the Tindouf camps (south-western Algeria), is lifted so that they can return home.
"We will have no respite until the siege imposed on our sequestered sons is lifted" and until "they can return home, in honor and dignity, to reunite with their families and cousins and contribute to the edification, development and modernization battle," said King Mohammed VI in a message on the occasion of the 20th anniversary for the recovery by Morocco of the Oued Eddahab Province.
In the message to the inhabitants of Morocco's southern provinces, and that was read out by Royal Advisor, Mohammed Allal Sinaceur, King Mohammed VI renewed the call made by his Late father, King Hassan II, "The Country is Clement and Forgiving."
This Royal Call-- addressed to Moroccan Sahrawis who are led by the Polisario separatists-- paved the way for the return to Morocco of thousands of Sahrawis, including influential members of the secessionists.
On August 14, 1979 representatives of the inhabitants of the Oued Eddahab province renewed, in Rabat, allegiance to the Late King Hassan II.
This memorable day, King Mohammed VI said, "symbolizes the historical and secular ties that have always existed between the inhabitants of the southern provinces and their homeland."
The king also underlined that he is firmly determined to assume the responsibility vested on him and that he is to accomplish this duty "appropriately, in accordance with the constitution provisions, which guarantee the national territorial integrity, and by virtue of the allegiance, following thus the path traced by our august father, may God rest his soul in peace."
King Mohammed VI also renewed his solicitude to the inhabitants of the southern provinces and determination to assume the responsibility of safeguarding the security of all the citizens.
The southern provinces have always been and will always be a part and parcel of our national territory within a state founded on well-established and solid foundations, King Mohammed VI insisted.
