Spain refuses Moroccan request over Sebta Mellila
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 8/16/1999

Spain has refused demands put by Morocco pertaining to the Moroccan cities of Sebta and Mellila which are occupied by Spain saying: "Their situation the two cities) can not undergo any change."

In a statement to pressmen on Sunday, the spokesman for the Spanish government said the " situation of the two pockets ( the two cities) is determined in the constitution and therefore there is nothing to be changed."

The Spanish spokesman added that the visit to be held by the Spanish Prime Minister Maria Aznar Jose today to Rabat has no connection to the situations in Sebta and Melilla.

Last Thursday, the Moroccan prime Minister Abdul Rahman Youssoufi said that it is ripe time to think together in a new situation for the two cities and to prepare the Spanish public opinion to follow up such a proposal.
