Peace between Syria, Israel will debate the future of Palestinian opposition
Syria-Palestine, Politics, 8/13/1999

Western diplomatic sources in Damascus said that the possibility of attaining peace between Damascus and Tel Aviv will debate the future of the Palestinian opposition which takes of Damascus as a headquarters, noting that any activity will be confined in this respect to releasing statements.

The Western diplomatic sources said that the inclination of certain Palestinian groups like " the people's front for the Liberation of Palestine," the democratic front for the liberation of Palestine," the leader of the " Palestinian salvation front Khaled al-Fahoum towards the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, through the formula of what is called " dialogue," is but an introduction for a similar move to be taken by other Palestinian factions into the same trend according to their " own calculations" that they will be " out of the political game when the train of peace takes off.

Observers indicate the "issue of the difficult return back of certain leaders of the Palestinian groups into inside the Palestinian territories" like the secretary general of the people's front for the liberation of Palestine- general command Ahmad Jibril; the leader of the Islamic Jihad movement Ramadan Abdullah Shalah, leader of the Fatah-uprising Muhammad Mousa ( Abu Mousa), due to the fact that the US administration " consider them terrorists and had repeatedly called for handing them over to it."

The Assistant secretary general for the people's front for the liberation of Palestine- general command, Talal Naji said that " Recognizing the Oslo agreements and concessions of the rights of the Palestinian peoples are but two (American) conditions to drop their names from the list of terrorism, exactly the same thing happened with Yasser Arafat who used to be considered by the US among the world's terrorists leaders."

The chairman of the political bureau of the Islamic resistance movement Hamas Khaled Mishal said that all "Syrian officials he met in Damascus asserted that Damascus will not give up her responsibilities towards the cause of Palestine in that she will be always a backing for the Palestinian people until they will realize their rights as stated in UN resolution."
